Meet our Staff

Volunteers

These are the people who really keep our events running smoothly!
If any part of Stumptown Dance seems to run itself, that is due to the efforts of these hard working and loyal individuals.
There is something else you should know about these people- they all love Swing dancing!
Ps. Talk to Mindy if you’d like to get more involved.

Set-Up Team

What would we do without our super set-up crew? …probably cry. They do a fantastic job at starting us off well and maintaining consistency week after week so that everything else runs like clockwork! These people are basically superheroes.

Front Desk Team

The front desk teams are the face of Stumptown Dance. They meet you with friendly smiles when you arrive at our events. They lovingly balance customer service with accuracy and attention to detail. We appreciate their service to the dance community more than we can express!

Management Team

These committed volunteers are caring, attentive and fill in all the gaps for the rest of us. They are important beyond measure to our little community.

Clean-Up Team

Our clean-up teams are thorough, efficient, organized and have great attitudes. These are the people who crawl around the dance floor (yes, on their hands and knees sometimes) after dancing all night, to scrub scuff marks off the floor so the ballroom continues to be beautiful. Words can not express our thankfulness for these people!

Contracted DJ’s & Instructors

We are blessed to have each of these remarkable individuals as a part of our lives and our dance community.
Over the years they have spent countless hours refining and re-refining their crafts as DJ’s and Dance Instructors.
We couldn’t ask for better people to work with. They also love to dance!

Owner, Primary Instructor & Wearer of many hats

Mindy Barnhart began Swing dancing in 1997.  In 2005, Mindy quit her day job to become a full time dance instructor and event promoter
for Westside Swing which is now Stumptown Dance.  After nurturing and helping Stumptown Dance grow for three years,
Mindy took a year away from the company and taught privately. In 2009, she accepted an offer to buy the original owner out.

Since then, Mindy has devoted herself to being the best instructor she can be, setting a high standard for fun, safety and integrity
in the Portland, OR dance community. Periodically, she attends dance events out of town to be inspired and challenged.
Mindy has entered a variety of competitions for fun and has claimed several awards as both a follower and a leader.
That said, her true love of dance is for social dancing and teaching.

Mindy’s favorite moments on the social dance floor are when she and a partner create something silly, exhilarating, surprising
or extremely well connected out of a “mistake”. As an instructor, her favorite moments are when she gets to witness
dancer’s lives being changed for the better in moments of new understanding and achievement.

Ps. The handsome guy in green is Mindy’s husband Sam Barnhart.
He takes the majority of the photos for Stumptown Dance.
